WooWoo Taco Bell Gives Sign To Steal - Cheaplander.com

Well, well, well. Free food, and you don’t even have to fill out any forms or anything. For the second year in a row, Taco Bell has ponied up one free crunchy seasoned beef taco for every person in America as a result of their “Steal a Base, Steal a Taco” promotion during the World Series.

I have to say that this was no doubt much better odds than those stupid “hit the target in the middle of the ocean” if you remember those promotions. I guess stealing a base wasn’t a guarantee - but it seemed like a much higher probablility of success than some of the other ones they’ve had. Sure enough, it went down in Game 1. Thanks Tampa Bay, I didn’t even know you had a baseball team (maybe you can tell I don’t follow baseball).

The free taco can be “stolen” by visiting any participating Taco Bell between the hours of 2 and 6 pm on Tuesday October 28, 2008. I’m sorta wondering what they mean by “participating” - I wonder how many aren’t going to take part in the giveaway. Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to line up at Taco Bell on Tuesday and see what happens.

I think that at least some (if not all?) Taco Bells are independently owned franchises and the owners can refuse to participate in these campaigns if they so choose. I’m guessing most go along with it because few people go in and just get a free taco. They probably also buy drinks or other food to go with the freebie so they end up doing okay in the end.

@orchid64 - dang, I completely forgot about it, it was today. I agree that with most of these freebee things, the stores are counting on you to buy other items. For me, it would’ve been worth it to get just the one taco, because it’s so closeby to where I normally go grocery shopping.
