OK, sorry to inundate you with all the cheapo posts for free stuff lately. But it’s hard not to notice it when so many retailers are trying desperately to get customers to buy things.
Rite Aid has been running a program called Single Check Rebates where you can get a significant discount on items in the store, sometimes even making the item FREE after the rebate is applied. I’ve been getting their direct mailers with the heading shown above on the front page along with all the products that are free after the rebate.
The catch is (and isn’t there always a catch?) that they’re NOT instant rebates. Of course not. You have to sign up for an account on their site and then enter your receipts when you purchase the participating products. You also have to REQUEST that they send a check (by snailmail, I’m assuming) for any rebates owed to you.
So let me see. They get your name, physical address AND email address. They track what you buy for unknown nefarious marketing purposes. And you have to request they to send you a check which takes who knows how long to arrive.
Seems like a bum deal?
But I guess with many rebates, you have to waste a stamp to physically mail the rebate in. Also, I remember those rebates taking ages to arrive. I’m hoping that because it’s done through an online account, the rebates would arrive faster.
It might be worth a look if you shop at Rite Aid frequently. I haven’t signed up myself to try it out, primarily because I haven’t needed any of the products advertised as free after rebate. Although - I’m kinda eyeing the “AXE Shock Shower Gel”. I could use some hyper-pheromone powers…
P.S. I’m sorry if I offended any nefarious marketing people out there. I know you gotta eat too…
