I hate to be the type of blog that only posts news about the Eeekconomy. That’s been happening more lately - sorry, but I’m still on the old Sicktrain and these dumdum-type posts just take less effort. On the bright side (or I guess that would be the dark side) there is no shortage of crazy ass Eeekconomic news to report. Every day, the news outlets upchuck three or four items that are almost too easy to write posts for.
The latest news - We Have Shrinkage, yes, Shrinkage. In the last quarter of 2008, the GDP dove off the deep end and shrunk at an annual rate of 3.8%. Eep, that’s the biggest shrinkage in over a quarter century. I don’t think the Eeekconomy wants to be wearing tighty whitey type swimming trunks right now. But I’d guess a lot of folks might be tightening their belts more in the coming year.
[Editor’s Note: In case you are wondering, I’m not shrinking from talking about shrinkage. I’m under orders from my shrink (who hails from Sri Lanka) not to talk about my own swimming-induced shrinkage.]

I’m sorry to hear that you continue to be sick. I guess you probably missed all of the lunar new year festivities on Guild Wars (the running of the celestial ox and all).
In Japan, it’s becoming apparent that when America’s economy starts losing weight, the rest of the world has no choice but to join in on the diet. I find this slightly ironic since people were complaining about wasteful American consumption for years and now they’re crying because they can’t sell as much to the U.S. and their economies are suffering. America can’t win.

@orchid - I did miss the lunar stuff on Guild Wars, but we haven’t played in awhile either. I still think America is an over-consumer, but yes it’s difficult to find the correct balance especially on the world stage.
