Dang. I had been meaning to post about the extremely reasonable prices on eggs I’d been enjoying at Trader Joe’s. It was no secret, but somehow I felt like I was getting such a great deal.
Too late. The price on a standard dozen large grade AA eggs was up 50 cents to $2.29. Now, I know all the Martha Stewart wannabees with hens sitting pretty in the coop out back are going to say, “Oh, poppycock and pish tosh, my old fellow! I’ll just nip out round the back for some freshly laid eggs.”
Sorry old chap, but there’s no henhouse in my yard. But TJs had been the cheapest regular place around here for good eggs - and that includes the ethnic supermarkets near me. Plus the quality was so much better. Funny, when I was picking up the eggs after the price had gone up I heard at least two other shoppers lament the fact that they weren’t as cheap any more. I guess I wasn’t the only one taking advantage of it.
I think I’ll probably continue to get eggs there just because I visit TJs on my errands day anyhow. Or perhaps they’ll even lower the prices again. But I’m not holding my breath.
Update 9/23/08: Wow, how WRONG I was! I just went to TJs today and they had eggs at 1.59 and 1.79. Also, it was a different company on the box - I guess they constantly search around for suppliers so there’s times when they can’t offer it at the lowest prices. In any case, I was pretty pleased - it was almost like they read my post or something, hehe =)
